What is testosterone?

Testosterone is an important hormone, especially in men. The hormone affects energy levels, muscle mass, sex drive, mood and general health.

In some people, testosterone levels may become lower than normal, which can cause symptoms such as low energy, reduced sex drive and reduced physical fitness. If symptoms persist, it may be appropriate to check your testosterone level.

Symptoms of low testosterone

Low testosterone levels can cause various symptoms, including:
Low energy and tiredness
Reduced sex drive
Reduced muscle strength or muscle mass
Reduced motivation or low mood
Difficulty concentrating
Increased body fat percentage
These symptoms can also be caused by other conditions. Testosterone levels are therefore always assessed together with your medical history, symptoms and other blood tests.

Other causes of low energy

Low energy is not necessarily caused by low testosterone. Vitamin deficiency, iron deficiency, thyroid problems, poor sleep, stress or other medical conditions can cause similar symptoms.

As part of the health check, the doctor assesses which blood tests are relevant to get a complete picture of your health.

How the testosterone test works

You book a health check with a doctor.
The doctor assesses your symptoms and orders relevant blood tests, including testosterone.
The blood tests are taken at Fürst, a few minutes’ walk from the clinic.
When the test results are ready, a follow-up consultation is carried out, where the doctor goes through the results with you and assesses whether further treatment may be appropriate.
For medical reasons, the blood tests must be taken as part of our own medical assessment.

Price

The assessment is carried out in two steps:

Health check: NOK 1,750
Follow-up consultation: NOK 1,250

Total price for the assessment: NOK 3,000.

Any laboratory costs are paid directly to the laboratory.

Treatment for low testosterone

If the test results and medical assessment show low testosterone levels, the doctor will assess whether treatment may be appropriate. Treatment must always be assessed individually based on symptoms, blood tests, medical history and general health.

The goal of treatment is to normalise testosterone levels in a safe and controlled way. For some patients, treatment may be given as testosterone injections, and many will then need further follow-up and new injections at regular intervals.

Other factors such as iron deficiency, vitamin deficiency, thyroid problems or other hormonal imbalances can also affect energy levels. A thorough medical assessment is therefore important before any treatment is started.

If you experience symptoms that may be caused by low testosterone, you can book a health check at Easy Clinic. The doctor will assess your symptoms, order relevant blood tests and go through the results with you before any treatment is considered.
